| This is a 9 meter Andrew earth station that we repaired in December, 2005 at the SCSI teleport outside Miami, Florida. The damage was caused by hurricane Wilma and almost destroyed this antenna. It looks like only one panel was damaged in the photos but there were actually 7 panels that had to be repaired or reinforced. Many of the rivets were stretched during the storm and several other panels were at the brink of breaking away from the rib structure. The reflector was put in the stowed position and then brought down to the ground where it could be repaired. After installing two replacement panels and repairing the other damaged panels we cleaned and pressure washed the antenna in preparation for painting. All bolts and necessary hardware are masked with painters tape to avoid painting them. The back surface is spray painted with one coat and the front surface is rolled with two coats. After the paint dries (usually 24 hours) the reflector is then lifted back into place and all cables, wires and power are reconnected. The antenna is repointed and then put back into service again. As you can see by the final photo it looks new again! This job was completed in 10 days from start to finish. This was a very reasonable and cost effective repair considering the price of a new one.
