Bonaire Nederlands Antilles Island Pictures Images by Mark Erney

These are pictures taken by Mark Erney on a trip to the Nederlands Antilles Dutch island of Bonaire for a large satellite earth station removal with Satellite Communications East back in 2005. Bonaire is world famous and known as the "divers paradise". Though we didn't get to see it under water, they say the reef that surrounds the island is the most beautiful in the world. Near the end of our work doing the satellite earth station removal, me and my right hand technician Klint just had to take a day and drive around the island. The north part of the island of Bonaire is mostly a wildlife preserve with pink flamingos, donkeys roaming wild, and plenty of huge cactus! People use cactus as a fence line on the north part of the island as you can see in one of the pictures below. What an awesome idea! Who wants to tackle a fence like that! In the first pictures you can see the lava rock formations that show the origins of the island. The one close up lava rock picture is really creepy but interesting. You can see what almost looks like caves tunneling into the lava rock. The pink flamingos were at a lake in the center of the wildlife preserve. The second of the flamingo images was a flamingo that got really curious and almost seemed to be posing for the pictures. The two images of the donkeys are on the drive back to the southern part of the island. I really like the image with the donkey wagging his tail with the ocean backdrop. I only wish I had a better camera back in 2005. That one donkey picture came out slighty blurry. The image of the cactus fence is another favorite of mine. Probably my favorite of all the pictures is the rainbow image at the bottom of the page. When I see a rainbow, it's always been a sign of good luck to me. The rainbow picture came out awesome! The original full size 1600 x 1200 image is just absolutely beautiful. Maybe by publishing it now, it will bring me good luck again. I really loved the time I spent on the Nederlands Dutch Antilles island of Bonaire. It has a very diverse population and all the people there are really nice and friendly like everybody in the Caribbean. Everywhere I go in the Caribbean, I have found the people to be very pleasant and easy going. No rush mon! Take it easy mon! I guess that's why all the millionaires and celebrities love to own homes or retire there. I really hope some day I have the financial ability to visit the island on a regular basis. I miss it badly! I have not been back since 2005 and it's such a beautiful place as you can see by the pictures and images below. I hope you enjoy them and visit Bonaire one day. I guarantee you will enjoy your stay there. Mark Erney
